This website
Everything on this site is information, not an offer that binds either of us. The writing samples are samples. The applicant organizations in them are invented and are labelled as invented on every page. No award, no client and no relationship with any organization named in them is claimed. The example pipeline report, funder tracker and leave-behind show the format of the monthly documents using made up figures, and each one is labelled that way across its own first page.
Nothing here is legal, financial or fundraising compliance advice for your organization.
The writing on this site belongs to us. Quote it, link it, show it to your board. Do not republish it as your own or as someone else's work sample.
The $750 trial
The trial is a flat fee of $750 USD, paid before work begins. Over roughly two weeks you get three things.
- A researched shortlist of foundation and corporate funders matched to your programs and your geography, with deadlines and typical grant sizes, each deadline verified against the funder's own published source.
- One complete letter of inquiry or full proposal, for a funder you choose, written from interviews with you and from your own records.
- The working file. All the research, boilerplate and budget language produced along the way.
The trial is one submission and those materials. It is not an ongoing service and it does not renew. There is nothing to cancel.
The refund on the trial
If you are not satisfied with the writing, ask within 14 days of delivery and the $750 is refunded in full. You keep everything we produced.
This refund is about the quality of our writing, which we control. It has nothing to do with whether a funder says yes, which nobody controls. We will never offer a refund tied to a funding decision, because paying a grant writer based on funding outcomes is prohibited by the professional codes of ethics we work under.
The monthly retainer
Two tiers, and no others.
| Tier | Fee | Each month you get |
|---|---|---|
| Flagship | $2,500 /mo | Funder research and a maintained shortlist, 2 to 4 letters of inquiry, 1 to 2 full proposals, a one page pipeline report, and one working session. |
| Foundation floor | $1,500 /mo | Funder research refresh and shortlist, 2 letters of inquiry, and the monthly pipeline report. No full proposals at this tier. |
The initial term is three months, then it continues month to month. Either of us can end the month to month arrangement with 30 days' written notice. We say why three months out loud: funder decisions take three to nine months, and under three months of volume a pipeline never becomes a pipeline.
Fees are invoiced monthly in advance. Retainer fees already paid are not refundable, and the trial refund above does not apply to retainer months. If you sign a retainer within 14 days of trial delivery, the $750 trial fee is credited against your first month.
Each document includes one round of revisions. A revision needed because we made a mistake is always corrected at no charge.
What is out of scope
Federal and grants.gov applications, which we refer out to specialists rather than learn on your budget. Post award grant management and reporting to funders. Events, appeals, major donor work and capital campaigns. Submitting through your own funder portals, unless we agree to it in writing. Anything outside the list can be added by written agreement.
We do not solicit donors, we never handle your funds, and we are not your fundraiser of record.
Who owns the writing
You do. Every shortlist, letter, proposal, boilerplate paragraph, budget narrative and research file we produce for you becomes your property once you have paid for the engagement that produced it. It is yours to keep, reuse, and hand to a different writer next year. We keep our own templates, methods and general know how, and we keep an internal copy of your files for the period described in the privacy page.
We will not name you as a client, quote you, or describe your engagement in any marketing without your written permission, given separately and at the time.
AI, in the contract
AI, stated in the terms and not only on a call
We use AI tools, including Anthropic's Claude, for funder research, fact assembly and first draft writing. This is in the terms because a commitment that only exists in conversation is not a commitment.
- A named human writer reads, checks and is accountable for every sentence before it reaches you or a funder.
- Every factual claim in a draft is verified against a source document from your own records before delivery.
- You approve every document before it is submitted anywhere.
- Donor lists and individual beneficiary records never enter an AI tool. We ask you not to send them, and we delete them if they arrive.
The full detail is on the privacy page, and the same commitment appears in the signed agreement.
What we will never promise
We do not guarantee that any funder will make an award, and we make no representation about the amount or likelihood of one. Funding decisions rest entirely with funders. Sector win rates run around one in five and decisions take three to nine months. Anyone who guarantees you funding is violating the profession's code of ethics.
Our fees are flat. They are never a percentage of an award, never contingent on an award, and never payable out of grant funds. That is required by the Grant Professionals Association and Association of Fundraising Professionals codes of ethics, and many funders prohibit percentage fees outright.
Your side of it
You provide accurate organizational information and review drafts within about five business days, because a grant calendar has real dates in it. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you give us and for approving and submitting every application. If you send us something with an individual's personal information in it, we will delete it and ask for an aggregate version.
Confidentiality
Each of us keeps the other's non public information confidential. Your financials, your grant history, and anything you tell us about a past problem with a funder stay with us. Handling is described on the privacy page.
If something goes wrong
Our total liability for any claim arising out of the work is limited to the fees you paid for the engagement that the claim relates to. For a trial, that is $750. Neither of us is liable to the other for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
These terms and any engagement are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada. Before anyone involves a lawyer, email us. Almost everything at this scale is fixable by rewriting something or refunding something.
Contacting us and stopping contact
Email nicholas@nomargrants.com. If you received a cold email from us and do not want another, reply and say so. You are removed, usually within hours. Details are in the cold email section of the privacy page.
Changes
If these terms change, the effective date at the top changes. Work already agreed runs under the terms in the signed agreement you have, not under a page we edited afterwards.
